Those cute little puppy chirps turn into monkey squeals! Mom has almost completely weaned them by this point, and their food is now only slightly soaked Inukshuk Pro 26/16 mixed with slightly soaked Taste of the Wild puppy formula. By 6 weeks of age, we are usually feeding almost completely dry puppy kibble. We will still give cottage cheese to help them digest the change.
At six weeks, we start letting people visit the puppies to pick out their new family member. We do this according to the deposit list, and who had theirs in first. While we do not do personality tests, we are around the puppies a lot, so are able to tell you a little about each puppy, so we can help you choose one that will fit the drive and personality that you would like.
At six weeks, the puppy will also go to our local vet for their first checkup. Here we will bring in a fecal for analysis, deworm them with pyrantel, and check for any congenital issues that could have arisen such as a heart murmur or cryptorchidism. All puppies receive a health and vaccination certificate, even if they are not leaving the state of Maine.
Full payment for your puppy is due by the day they turn 6 weeks of age. There is a state tax of 5.5% for Maine residents.
The 7th week is for growing! The puppies grow so much bigger in the two weeks between meeting them and picking them up. Those little cells are multiplying, and we can sometimes even see the growth overnight! If you send us a message through our facebook page, we can send you any videos that we have on our phones of your pup as they grow!
When it comes to picking up your puppy, we like to set up a time so that we can answer any questions that you may still have. We often will make a trip to Portsmouth, NH to meet new puppy owners, cutting out 3 ½ hours of driving (one way). We do charge $100 for the Portsmouth delivery.
This is not the last time you will see or hear from us, of course, as we want to see all of those cute photos and videos throughout the life of your pup. We are always here to answer questions, and there are no “dumb” questions.
